TO LOSE THE THREAD

It’s happened again. My students were working with a partner or in teams of three, discussing whether tomatoes can protect the body from certain diseases. Matteo, in one group, was busy giving his opinion when Bakir, working in another team, interrupted with a funny remark. This was enough to make Matteo forget what he was going to say next. I think we all agree that this is something which has happened to all of us at one point or another in our lives, be it during a serious discussion or a relaxed chat over a coffee. We’re speaking away and then …. ooops … what did I want to say? For such a situation, we can use the expression TO LOSE THE THREAD.

bla bla bla bla bla bla …. hmm … eh … umm … I’VE LOST THE THREAD! What on earth was I saying?

Over to you …

Have you ever had an embarrassing moment when you LOST THE THREAD? What was it? How did you get out of it?
