Word pairs



Before we say YES or NO to a business proposal, we insist on seeing see the TERMS and CONDITIONS in BLACK and WHITE.

  • YES or NO => decide
  • TERMS and CONDITIONS => rules of an agreement
  • BLACK and WHITE => printed or written down

Interestingly, we don’t say NO or YES / CONDITIONS and TERMS / WHITE and BLACK. If we do, the meaning would still be clear even though they sound strange to the ear.

As the afternoon class discovered, there are countless other such pairs. I’m now going to give you a bundle of words. Your task is to pair them up in the correct sequence. There are 6 word partners. Then, give example sentences to show that you have understood their meaning.
