Pokémon Go and a grammar problem

My question for you is not about Pokémon Go but rather about a comment made to the news agency CNN by a game player (see above).

There’s a major grammar mistake. What is it?

    I probably would have never “gone” down there if it “wasn’t” for this game.

    I think it is correct.

    1. Yes, you can change weren’t to wasn’t as both are in common usage with these forms of if sentences. However, when using would have, you need the third form of the verb, in this case gone.
