The hand

Artwork by my colleague, Tiziana.

I want to share this useful drawing I found on the white board in one of the class rooms. I don’t know who the artist is but he/she deserves a thank you. I have now discovered whose artwork this is….thank you Tiziana!

Meanwhile, do you know that many body parts can be used as verbs? For example, everyone knows what “a hand” is but what does “TO HAND” mean? Can you give me a few examples with the verb “to hand?

    1. You can “HANDLE a problem or a difficult situation”, meaning you take responsibility for it or try to manage it.

Now imagine you are having lunch. You want soup but it is at the other end of the table. You can tell the person next to you: “HAND me the soup, please”. Or you must make a call but your partner is carrying your phone. “Can you HAND me the phone, dear?” is another way of saying, “Give me the phone, dear”.
